The Marriott at Copley Place underwent a guestroom renovation in November of 2011 that included a complete remodel of each room. As part of the HVAC system improvements, programmable thermostats were installed. INNCOM thermostats in each guestroom communicate with the door locking system and the hotel reservation system to optimize efficiency. The INNCOM system provides our guest with an enhanced level of comfort and control features that delight the guests while improving hotel efficiency.

Environmental Impact

The communication between the thermostat and the rest of the building systems allows for significant reduction in energy usage because the thermostat only calls to cool or heat the room when guests check into the room at the front desk. The thermostat also knows when the room is occupied and will change the parameters when unoccupied to allow a greater fluctuation in temperatures.


$336.40 per room; included software, installation, equipment, and training.
Total cost for 1,147 rooms = $ $385,850.80


Significant reduction in electricity consumption.

NSTAR offered a $90,000 incentive for the programmable thermostats.
