PURCHASING – USED ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND RECLAIMED PRODUCTS

PROJECT STORY

Peabody Office Furniture, 230 Congress Street

We completed an 8,000 square foot renovation of our showroom, which included the lower level and first floor of our building. The primary goal was to create a modern, sophisticated showroom bringing out the natural elements of the building and using state of the art products.

Environmental Impact

The biggest impact came from the deconstruction of the existing showroom and the waste that would be created from that work. In order to minimize this impact, we brought in Boston Building Resources to recycle the lighting, doors, cabinets, appliances, sinks, toilets, and millwork. We also worked with The Furniture Trust to donate the existing furniture as opposed to putting it in the trash.
For the construction, we used sustainable products such as cork flooring, recycled-content carpet tiles, high-efficiency lighting and for the furniture we used products from manufacturers that were highly committed to the environment. For example, our reception desk is made out of reclaimed wood from a barn in Pennsylvania.
