Use Window Shading To Conserve Energy

What Is It?

Lowering window shades, turning off the lights, and turning down heat and air conditioning when rooms are unoccupied all help conserve energy. Window covers and shades prevent indoor solar heat gain and block harmful ultraviolet rays, which damage furniture and carpets.

Insulated energy–efficient drapes and shades can be a cost–effective strategy to modulate room temperature, particular in south- and west–facing rooms. Reducing solar heating or turning down the thermostat by 10 degrees for 8 hours a day can save 10 percent on heating and cooling bills.
